Content localization geared to the target group

The internationalisation of industry and trade as well as the technological progress in communication and information technology has resulted in a global network of market participants. Instruction manuals, marketing texts, documentation, user interfaces of software products, image films, industry related films as well as web content need to have the same effect in your customers’ different languages and cultures. For projects in the German-speaking areas, Texttorpedo handles this task for you as part of the localisation process. If you require translations into other languages, I will be happy to put you in touch with specialized competent service providers for you.

Texttorpedo as a translator

  • Translations from English and French into German
  • Translations of technical and general texts
  • Expertise in energy technology, electrical engineering/electronics and consumer electronics
  • Post-editing of machine-assisted translations
  • Terminology maintenance and quality assurance with the TM system SDL Trados Studio 2017 including the terminology database SDL MultiTerm 2017

Convincing the target group

A translation is only good when it cannot be recognised as a translation. As an accredited specialist translator for English and French technical texts into German, I systematically familiarise myself with the respective specialist area in order to guarantee a successful translation. So far I have been able to gather extensive experience in the specialist areas of electrical engineering/electronics, consumer electronics and particularly energy technology. I would be very interested in becoming acquainted with other specialist fields. I’m as familiar with the basic rules of a simplified language to create comprehensible documentation as with the responsible further development of machine-assisted translations within the scope of post-editing.

Quality assurance and data protection

Using terminology management and translation memory systems helps ensure a consistently high level of quality, not only for large-scale translation projects. I use the TM system Trados Studio 2017 including SDL MuliTerm 2017 in order to ensure the quality of translation and a reliable terminology exchange with the customer. During my work, I am always conscious of the quality assurance principles formulated in the European norm DIN EN ISO 17100 as well as the fundamental data protection principles. As a result, I am deriving the following 7 obligations:

  • Order protocol of all agreements between customer and service provider.
  • Binding deadline coordination.
  • Using the customer-TM upon request.
  • All assignments are completed on one stationary computer with licensed software (no cloud-computing).
  • All assignments are completed on a password protected Windows-PC, which is accessible exclusively by Texttorpedo.
  • I only work in the professional areas that I am familiar with. This ensures the correct use of professional terminology as well as an idiomatically and stylistically appropriate rendition of the source text.
  • Secure storage of all order data for an appropriate time frame.

Main area: power engineering

Texttorpedo boasts exceptional expert knowledge in the area of energy technology, particularly in the field of renewable energies. He continuously keeps up to date with current technological developments in wind energy, hydraulic energy, photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, geothermal power and bioenergy by means of German, English and French-language sources. This also includes studying pertinent subject literature and trade magazines, and visiting trade fairs.

The 4-eye-principle

In the International Standard DIN EN ISO 17100 the 4-eye-principle is recommended for translation services. Thus, the translated text should always be reviewed by a second language service provider. This principle is controversial, as this causes additional costs and makes the customer wait considerably longer for the translation he has ordered. Texttorpedo translates specialist texts in three stages:

  • Thorough, complete translation of the source text, with the aid of a TM-system wherever possible.
  • Review of the translation for consistency of the content and terminology.
  • Orthographic, stylistic and typographic proof-reading of the translation.

Whether this is a 6-eye-principle remains undecided. In Texttorpedo’s opinion, translation of specialized technical texts should ideally be done by one person exclusively because experience has shown: too many cooks spoil the broth.
